Have you ever heard the term “Metabolic Syndrome”?

Metabolic Syndrome is the biggest health crisis hiding in plain sight that in itself is being ignored by almost everyone! It’s been scientifically proven that the combination of being overweight and physically inactive significantly contributes to developing metabolic syndrome.

It’s often been said that “we can’t out exercise a bad diet” and if we are generally unhealthy we may actually put ourselves at risk with vigorous exercise. We know that exercise alone only represents 20% of our overall health. This actually leads us to right back to “the question” then what are we to do?

Metabolic Syndrome is the hidden reason we often see what we would classify as a “healthy” individual having a heart attack for example. We often look at that situation believing believing there was no apparent reason for it to occur. I’ve often heard people say “wow, (he/she) was so healthy, that could happen to any of us”.
Lets explore what is happening a little further.

We have Metabolic Syndrome when we have a combination of three (or more) health risks, which include:

  1. high blood pressure
  2. high blood sugar levels
  3. excess body weight
  4. low levels of “good” cholesterol (HDL)
  5. high levels of triglycerides (a type of fat found in the blood)

The risk increases dramatically when a person has a combination of these symptoms all at the same. The risk is developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and even cancer.

Other major risk factors that may lead to the development of metabolic syndrome include:

  1. age (the risk increases as we get older)
  2. a family history of health concerns, like diabetes and cardiovascular disease including high blood pressure.

What is Metabolic Health

When I start my 3 week online Metabolic Health & Mindset Groups the Day #1 Lesson is always a general discussion on “what is metabolic health”. Everyone always asks that question because it’s both the least understood and it’s the key to why our health goals always allude us.

To answer this question in more detail I encourage my clients to read the Metabolic Nutrition Guide that I provide with our program, as it contains a wealth of information. I will also be highlighting some of the more important things we should be doing in the coming days lessons. However, for this post today, lets take that “what are we supposed to do” question and start working our way backwards.
The Symptom Solution

Traditionally, to address these health symptoms we would use targeted pharmaceuticals and/or nutritional supplementation. While either choice may reduce or possibly delay the outcomes and alleviate symptoms, it does not affect the underlying cause which is our metabolic health.

This is where understanding the practice and application of metabolic health (and mindset) is so important to truly becoming HEALTHY!

My Personal Experience

For me personally, 7 years ago I had several health factors of metabolic syndrome. I don’t know where I would be today had I not changed my metabolic health. As a result of consistency, I was able to reduce my body fat % by 25% (100 lb weight loss) and increase lean muscle 20+ lbs. I was able to achieve this in mid-late 40’s. I did and still do use supplementation that enhance my metabolic health,

I could not have achieved these results with supplementation alone, and I could not have achieved these results on clean eating alone. I was able to achieve these results with a strategy of Metabolic Nutrition.
