Unhealthy to Fit: I lost 100 lbs

I spent most of my entire adult life carrying extra weight. When I hit my 40’s my knees hurt, my back ached and my blood sugars were out of control. I found myself in a situation most corporate executives find themselves – unhealthy, and then unemployed!

Is that really me?

What really caused me to take my health serious were those mornings looking in the mirror as I kept seeing someone I did not know or like. It really scared me, and I was continually becoming afraid to grow older, knowing I was running out of time, just like my parents did. I hated looking in that mirror, and rarely got in front of a camera.

Looking back now, it seems like I spent my entire life focusing on others, just letting life’s challenges lead me along, making excuses, and driving forward in my corporate career. Just recently I’ve been thinking about the last three decades of my life and my journey here until now, and how others must be feeling living as I once did.

It’s been suggested to me that I should not share with others what I am specifically doing for my exercise intensity combined with my love of sports, like playing gentlemen’s ice hockey 3 to 4 times per week. Should I be ashamed of my progress? My determination? My accomplishments?

Should I hide the fact that as I get closer to being 50 I’m now in the very best health of my entire life? Should I hide it because others my age are not experiencing this level of life enthusiasm, freedom and fun?

The struggle is real – I get it!

I get the struggle of getting started on a journey like this. Back in 2010 when I started taking my health serious I’d wake up earlier and go for a morning walk. It was the only time I could find that I had to myself. As I walked I would think positive thoughts, embrace the feelings of gratitude and abundance, and envision what my life would be like if I was healthier and no longer in pain.

I’ve never had a “muscle memory” thing, and I don’t have one of those “90-day fat-to-ripped” miracle stories we often read about. In fact, I never really tried anything to lose weight until I made a decision to do it. But I lost 100 lbs and gained close to 20 lbs in lean muscle while in my mid-40’s. I’m a REAL person with a REAL STORY…one of motivation, consistency, determination and focus. It took time…and I never gave up!

It’s my career focus now!

I’m now living life every day on purpose and driven to help others. I’m a founding Coach of our Metabolic Health & Fitness Coaching program. I’m excited about this program as it’s all about improving our metabolic health the same way I changed my health. It’s focused on eating real food, fitness, creating a mindset of longevity as we age, and supporting it all with nutrient dense protein. Success is all about creating a realistic healthier lifestyle.

Lets Work Together!

We can all do this, and we can do it together. Maybe you are like I was, in that you are now at a point you’ve had enough. I’m here to support and encourage you! I have everything you need to get started on your journey, just like I did. Just say the word!

If my experience can help you in anyway gain more results in your life, I encourage you to reach out. I would be honoured to share my story further. Get in touch with me at doug_collins@rogers.com or (506) 856-9258.
